Church of San Miguel
San Miguel is the largest church in Jerez and gives its name to the neighbourhood around it, on Plaza de San Miguel. Work began at the end of the 15th century: a plaque of 1484 on the Gothic Gospel-side doorway is linked to the visit of the Catholic Monarchs that year. It is a blend of Jerez Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque, with three naves and a transept. The main façade is a tower-façade in Sevillian Baroque built by Diego Moreno Meléndez between 1672 and 1701, with three stepped-back tiers and an octagonal spire of blue and white tiles. Inside, the wooden high altarpiece was designed and largely carried out by Juan Martínez Montañés and continued by José de Arce, and the Sacramental Chapel, with a Greek-cross plan, was built in Sevillian Baroque style between 1718 and 1759. The treasury opened to visitors in 2018. It was declared a national monument in 1931.
