Ben Youssef Mosque and Madrasa
Former Quranic school founded in the 14th century under the Marinids and rebuilt in 1564-65 by the Saadian sultan Abdallah al-Ghalib, who made it one of the largest in the Maghreb, with around a hundred student cells. The madrasa can be visited: a courtyard with a pool, walls of zellige, carved stucco and carved cedar, and the small student cells on two floors. The adjoining mosque, of Almoravid origin, cannot be visited.
