The Museo Lázaro Galdiano occupies Parque Florido, the former residence of the collector and publisher José Lázaro Galdiano, built in 1904 to a design by José Urioste in the Neo-Renaissance style, in the Salamanca district. On his death in 1947, Lázaro Galdiano bequeathed to the State the building, a library of 20,000 volumes and more than 12,600 works of art; the museum opened to the public in 1951. The collection brings together Spanish and European painting, weapons, jewels, enamels and decorative arts spread over several floors of the house. Among the highlights are two paintings by Goya, The Witches' Sabbath and The Witches, commissioned by the Dukes of Osuna, as well as works by Hieronymus Bosch, Lucas Cranach the Elder, El Greco, Murillo and Zurbarán. It also preserves The Young Saviour, attributed to the workshop of Leonardo da Vinci and now assigned to Boltraffio or Marco d'Oggiono. The route keeps the character of a private home turned into a picture gallery, with hardly any alteration to the original layout of the rooms.
