The Rohan Palace, former residence of the prince-bishops and cardinals of the House of Rohan, is a prominent Baroque architectural complex next to Strasbourg Cathedral. Built between 1732 and 1742 to designs by Robert de Cotte, the building now houses three museums: the Archaeological Museum in the basement, the Museum of Decorative Arts on the ground floor and the Museum of Fine Arts on the upper floors. Visitors can tour the historic apartments, such as the Bishops' Hall, the King's Chamber and the library, which preserve tapestries and period decoration. The main façade, with its monumental portico and allegorical statues, gives access to a courtyard of honour. The palace also has the Galerie Robert Heitz for temporary exhibitions and has been the setting for historic events and official receptions.
