Strasbourg's Notre-Dame Cathedral is a Catholic church in the city's historic centre. Built between 1015 and 1439, it combines Romanesque and Gothic elements, and stands out for its richly ornamented façade with three portals, a rose window with a wheat-ear motif and a gallery of apostles. Its single tower, 142 metres high, offers an observation level from which the Vosges and the Black Forest can be seen. Inside, the Flamboyant Gothic pulpit with around fifty figures and the 18-metre astronomical clock are notable pieces. The cathedral is the seat of the diocese and regularly holds masses and confessions. In December, the esplanade in front of the main façade hosts the Christmas market.
