Hippodrome of Constantinople
CultureVisit: ~45 min
The former chariot-racing circus of Byzantine Constantinople, now Sultanahmet Square between Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. It preserves three monuments from that era: the Obelisk of Theodosius, brought from Egypt and erected in the year 390, the Serpent Column, from Delphi, and the masonry obelisk. The German Fountain, from 1901, completes the square.
