Church of San Nicolás
San Nicolás is a Gothic church in Pamplona's old town, one of the city's five old parishes and a Bien de Interés Cultural since 2006. It was built next to the old wall, with a defensive function, in the borough of San Nicolás. In 1222 the residents of the borough of San Cernin burned the earlier Romanesque church-fortress, and the new church was consecrated in 1231. Of the Gothic exterior only two doors, the apse and part of the high wall can be seen, because the rest is covered by additions of 1888 by Ángel Goicoechea. It keeps two towers, the larger one with machicolations and a Baroque brick top. Inside it has three naves in a Latin cross, rib vaults from the 14th century and a large Baroque organ of 1769. In 2013 the coats of arms of the boroughs of the Navarrería, San Nicolás and San Cernin, and that of the city, were placed high up in the central nave.
