Les Ferreres Aqueduct (Pont del Diable)

CultureVisit: ~45 minFree

A Roman hydraulic work, probably from the 1st century AD, which formed part of the long aqueduct that brought water from the River Francolí to Tarraco, about 4 km north of Tarragona, near the N-240. It has two rows of round arches, is 217 m long and up to 27 m high. It is called the Pont del Diable (Devil's Bridge) because of the legend that the devil built it after winning a bet for a young woman's soul. It is declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Asset of National Cultural Interest) and is part of the Archaeological Ensemble of Tarraco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. In the 19th and early 20th centuries the Puig i Valls brothers turned the surrounding estate into a romantic garden. The monument can be seen in the open air.
