Iglesia de San Nicolás de la Villa
San Nicolás de la Villa is one of Córdoba's Fernandine churches, dating from the 13th century, and takes the epithet "de la Villa" to distinguish it from San Nicolás de la Ajerquía. It preserves its Gothic-Mudéjar structure on an almost square plan with three naves and no transept, with Baroque additions from the 17th and 18th centuries. The central nave has a timber roof of Mannerist inspiration with polychrome octagons and squares, and the main chapel has a rib vault. The baptismal chapel is the work of Hernán Ruiz II, with sculpture by Sebastián Peñarredonda. The south doorway is the oldest, pointed and preceded by a 15th-century portico; the main one, on the north side, is Renaissance and Mannerist, also by Hernán Ruiz II. The bell tower was built on a former Islamic minaret, with a military air, and was finished in 1496. It preserves a commemorative plaque and the coat of arms of Bishop Íñigo Manrique de Lara. It has been a Site of Cultural Interest since 2003 and is the seat of the Brotherhood of the Sentence.
