Serra do Pilar Monastery
CultureVisit: ~60 min
Former Augustinian monastery from the 16th century, on top of the Serra do Pilar, in Vila Nova de Gaia, opposite Porto on the other side of the Douro. It stands out for its circular church and circular cloister, an architectural rarity. Together with the historic centre of Porto and the Dom Luís I Bridge, it forms part of the ensemble declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. Its esplanade offers one of the best views of the city.
