CultureVisit: ~60 min
Basilica built between 1872 and 1896 on Fourvière hill, to a design by the architect Pierre Bossan, in an eclectic style inspired by Romanesque and Byzantine. It dominates Lyon from above and is recognisable by its four towers and the golden statue of the Virgin on the neighbouring chapel. The interior is covered in mosaics and the esplanade offers one of the best views of the city, the Saône and the rooftops of the old town.
