Parc des Hauteurs

NatureVisit: ~120 minFreeOpening hours: Recorrido al aire libre de acceso libre.

This is a route of parks and gardens on Fourvière hill, in the 5th arrondissement, linking the basilica with the Loyasse cemetery. It is a loop circuit that sets out from the Fourvière esplanade and passes through the passerelle des Quatre-Vents, the Loyasse cemetery, the parc de la Visitation, the archaeological park with the Roman odeon and theatre and the Rosaire gardens, before returning to the esplanade. The footbridge, a viewpoint about 80 metres high, follows the line of an old tram viaduct that carried visitors and coffins to Loyasse; the current one was designed by Manuelle Gautrand and the engineer Marc Malinowski, and gives views of the Croix-Rousse and the Monts d'Or. The Rosaire garden was laid out by Pierre Bossan in the late nineteenth century and remodelled in 1993; it has hydrangeas, an old rose bush and a vegetable garden. The Sainte-Philomène chapel and the garden have been protected since 2004. It is reached by the Fourvière funicular.
