Círculo de Bellas Artes

The Círculo de Bellas Artes is a private, non-profit cultural institution founded in 1880, based at Calle Alcalá 42 in Madrid. It occupies a building designed by architect Antonio Palacios in 1926, declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 1981. It is a multidisciplinary centre with an intense cultural programme of around a thousand events a year: exhibitions in four galleries (Picasso, Minerva, Goya and Juana Mordó), original-language film screenings in its Cine-Estudio, concerts and performing arts in the Sala Fernando de Rojas, lectures and seminars on the humanities and science, and art workshops. The building also houses a specialist library, a radio station (Radio Círculo), a bookshop, a café-restaurant known as La Pecera, and a rooftop terrace 56 metres up with panoramic views of Madrid, topped by the sculpture of Minerva. General admission includes access to the exhibitions and the rooftop.
