Milltown Cemetery
The cemetery is known for its plots dedicated to figures of Irish republicanism, such as the New Republican Plot and the County Antrim Plot, where members of the IRA are buried, including Bobby Sands and other hunger strikers, as well as victims of recent conflict and historic figures such as Tom Williams. Notable areas include the Harbison Plot, honouring republican activists executed or who died in prison, the grave of the socialist Winifred Carney, and the Priests' Row, where prominent Catholic clergy and cultural figures of Belfast rest, many of their graves marked with Celtic crosses. The cemetery was also the scene of historic events, such as the attack during a funeral in 1988, and contains plots dedicated to members of the Irish National Liberation Army and other organisations linked to the city's political and social history.
