Chrysler Building
CultureVisit: ~30 min
Art Deco skyscraper, 319 metres tall, completed in 1930 and designed by architect William Van Alen, at 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue. Its stainless-steel crown, with stepped arches and triangular windows, is one of the most recognisable silhouettes in Manhattan. The eagle-shaped gargoyles recall the ornaments on Chrysler cars. It is an office building: what can be visited is the lobby, with its marble and the ceiling mural.
