Zea Bay is the second-largest harbour on the Piraeus peninsula and was the largest of the three naval harbours of classical Athens, with 196 berths for triremes and a naval arsenal designed by Philo. It hosted the swimming events of the 1896 Olympic Games. Today it is home to a marina and a yacht harbour renovated in 2004, with 670 berths for vessels up to 150 metres long and a draught of 10 metres, managed by D Marinas Hellas. Visitors can walk along the harbour front, watch the boating activity and identify the site of the ancient Athenian naval base, which was the subject of Greek-Danish archaeological excavations between 2002 and 2012.
