La Pastora Dolmen
A Copper Age tomb in Valencina de la Concepción, about 7 kilometres from Seville, within one of the largest settlements of the third millennium BC in the Iberian Peninsula, covering more than 400 hectares. It was discovered in 1860 during agricultural work on the Divina Pastora estate, from which it takes its name. It is a tholos: a circular chamber 2.5 metres in diameter reached by a corridor of about 47 metres, divided into four sections by interior doors and covered with a false dome of slate and small stones. All of it lies beneath a tumulus about 85 metres in diameter. Its entrance faces west, not east as in most Andalusian megaliths. On the western slope about thirty arrowheads or javelin points were found. It was declared a historic-artistic monument in 1931. Very close by is the Matarrubilla dolmen, not now open to visitors inside.
