Mädlerpassage
The Mädlerpassage is a historic shopping arcade in the centre of Leipzig, known for its continuous glass roof and its T-shaped layout with an octagonal rotunda where its three wings meet. Visitors can walk through its covered passages, home to more than 20 small shops and restaurants, as well as the entrance to the famous Auerbachs Keller restaurant, celebrated for its appearance in Goethe's 'Faust'. In the first section of the arcade there is a notable bronze sculpture of Faust and Mephistopheles alongside a group of enchanted students, inspired by the cellar scene in Goethe's work. The upper floors house offices, the Sanftwut cabaret and an art space, while the central rotunda holds a Meissen porcelain carillon.
