Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche)

CultureVisit: ~45 minFrom €8

The Church of Our Lady, known as the Frauenkirche, is a Baroque Lutheran church on Neumarkt square in Dresden, whose most recognisable feature is its great sandstone dome, nicknamed the 'stone bell', which rises above eight pillars and offers remarkable acoustics for concerts and sacred music. Visitors can explore the interior, where the Baroque altar and organ take centre stage, and climb up to the dome to enjoy panoramic views of the city. The church, destroyed during the Second World War and rebuilt after German reunification, retains original elements and has become a symbol of reconciliation, and regularly hosts concerts, religious services and guided tours exploring its history and architecture.
