Dresden Royal Palace (Residenzschloss)
The Residenzschloss was the residence of the prince-electors and kings of Saxony. It originated around 1200 as a Romanesque keep; the Hausmannsturm was added in the early 15th century, and between 1468 and 1480 it was turned into a closed four-wing building. After a major fire in 1701, Augustus the Strong remodelled it in Baroque style. The bombing of 1945 left it a roofless shell; reconstruction began in the 1960s and continues. Today it houses several museums of the Dresden State Art Collections: the Green Vault, with the Dresden Green Diamond, the Gold Coffee Service or the Throne of the Great Mogul; the Armoury (Rüstkammer), with around 13,000 pieces, and the Turkish Chamber (Türckische Cammer), with more than 600 Ottoman objects. On the façade of the Stallhof (Stable Courtyard) is the Procession of Princes.
