Neues Museum

The Neues Museum, on Berlin's Museum Island, is a historic building constructed between 1843 and 1855 to plans by Friedrich August Stüler. Severely damaged in the Second World War, it was rebuilt by the architect David Chipperfield and reopened in 2009. The museum holds several permanent collections, including that of the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, which includes the famous bust of Queen Nefertiti, and that of the Museum of Prehistory and Early History, with objects such as the Berlin Gold Hat. Pieces from the Antikensammlung (Collection of Classical Antiquities) are also on display. The building itself is an architectural landmark, being the first monumental building in Prussia to make consistent use of iron structures. Visitors can explore its rooms, which combine historic restoration with modern elements, and see temporary exhibitions such as 'Destiny in the Stars: The Beginnings of the Zodiac' or 'The Crown of Kerch'. The museum offers services such as a shop and catering, and is accessible for people with disabilities.
