A botanical garden founded in 1755 and moved by Charles III to Paseo del Prado, where Juan de Villanueva and Francesco Sabatini laid it out in terraces. It holds thousands of living species, greenhouses and a historic herbarium with plants collected on the great scientific expeditions to the Americas. It forms part of the Paisaje de la Luz World Heritage Site.
