Pamplona's bullring, in the Second Ensanche, was designed in 1920 and opened on 7 July 1922, in the middle of the Sanfermines. Its architect was Francisco Urcola, and in 1966 Rafael Moneo reformed it together with the engineer Carlos Fernández Casado, bringing it to about 19,720 seats, the second largest in Spain by capacity after Las Ventas. It is the final stage of the encierro. Next to the entrance to the ring is the Hemingway monument, by the sculptor Luis Sanguino (1968), in memory of the writer who mentioned it in The Sun Also Rises. The guided tour has five stations: an audiovisual on the encierro, the corrals and the life of the bull, the bullfight, the Puerta de Cuadrillas with the horse yard and the chapel, and the ring with the sand, the barriers and the bull pens. A guide or audio guide is offered in ten languages.
