Visitors to the Vienna State Opera can tour a Neo-Renaissance building with a historic façade, a grand staircase and a foyer decorated with frescoes by Moritz von Schwind, which survived the bombing of the Second World War and were restored during reconstruction. Inside, the wood-panelled main hall offers outstanding acoustics and retains the traditional colours of red, gold and ivory, while the Orgelsaal on the sixth floor houses a 2,500-pipe organ whose sound is fed directly into the auditorium. The Opera is also home to the Wiener Staatsballett and hosts the traditional Opera Ball every year, along with a continuous programme of operas and ballets on its main stage.
