Champ de Mars

The Champ de Mars is an extensive public garden located between the Eiffel Tower and the École Militaire, where visitors can stroll along wide avenues, relax in green areas and enjoy direct views of the Eiffel Tower. The park contains monuments such as the bust of Gustave Eiffel, the equestrian statue of Marshal Joffre, the Wall for Peace and a monument to the Rights of Man, as well as children's play areas, a carousel, sports courts, a bandstand and a puppet theatre. The Champ de Mars has been the setting for major historical events, such as the Fête de la Fédération in 1790, the massacre of 1791 and the Festival of the Supreme Being in 1794, and has hosted world's fairs and sporting events over the centuries.
