New York Public Library
CultureVisit: ~60 min
The library's main building, on Fifth Avenue at 42nd Street, is a Beaux-Arts work by the architects Carrère and Hastings, opened in 1911. It is guarded by the stone lions Patience and Fortitude on the steps. On the third floor is the Rose Main Reading Room, a hall with very high painted ceilings and large chandeliers. Bryant Park opens out behind it.
