Neo-Gothic skyscraper in Lower Manhattan designed by Cass Gilbert and opened in 1913 for the F. W. Woolworth chain of stores. With 57 floors and about 241 metres, it was the tallest building in the world until 1930. Its terracotta façade and the lobby with mosaics and vaults have made it known as the “Cathedral of Commerce”.
