Porte d'Aix
CultureVisit: ~15 min
Marseille's triumphal arch, built between 1825 and 1839 on Place Jules-Guesde, north of the centre, to celebrate the victories of the Duke of Angoulême in Spain. It was designed by Michel-Robert Penchaud and is decorated with reliefs sculpted by Ramey and David d'Angers. It marks the old entrance to the city by the road to Aix and today stands next to the Law Courts and a few minutes from the Belsunce district.
