Church of San Felipe Neri
The Church of San Felipe Neri, on Calle Cabello in the neighbourhood that bears its name, was built from 3 March 1720 on the site of an earlier chapel in the old Plaza de los Canteros. In 1739 the Count of Buenavista handed the church over to the Philippine fathers at the request of Bishop Gaspar de Molina. It is a Baroque building with a sacristy designed by Martín de Aldehuela and a high altar with a tabernacle finished in 1795; beneath the main chapel there is a crypt. It preserved paintings by Miguel de Manrique and sculptures by Pedro de Mena, although some of the images were lost on 12 May 1931, when the church was attacked and set on fire during the anticlerical disturbances of the Second Republic. After a restoration between 2010 and 2011, it reopened for worship on 27 November of that year.
