Salamanca Market
The Salamanca Market, in the El Molinillo neighbourhood, is a municipal market built between 1922 and 1925 to a design by architect Daniel Rubio Sánchez, as part of the municipal plan to give every neighbourhood of Málaga a covered market. It is a single-nave building covered by a metal structure, with two identical entrances at the ends in Neo-Mudéjar style: horseshoe arches formed by bands of brick and wrought-iron grilles in a Modernista taste. The interior is lined with tiles. It was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2007. Today it brings together some thirty stalls of fruit, meat, fish and other fresh produce and, according to the market itself, is the second most visited in the city by tourists. It is open Monday to Saturday, on Calle San Bartolomé.
