Sanjō Ōhashi Bridge
CultureVisit: ~15 min
Bridge over the Kamo River on Sanjō Street, the end point of the Tōkaidō and Nakasendō routes, two of the five roads of Edo; Hiroshige depicted it in his "Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō". Hideyoshi ordered it repaired in 1590 and one of its original finials (giboshi) still survives, with a mark attributed to a sword cut, perhaps from the Ikedaya incident. The present bridge is concrete and dates from 1950.
