Theatre opened in 1801 by Emanuel Schikaneder, the librettist of The Magic Flute. Beethoven's opera Fidelio premiered here in 1805 and the composer even lived in the building. Today it works as an opera house and usually offers Baroque and contemporary productions. It is on the Linke Wienzeile, next to the Naschmarkt.
