Wasserkirche
The Wasserkirche, or Water Church, stands on the Limmat between the Grossmünster and the Fraumünster, right next to the Helmhaus. According to legend, Felix and Regula, the city's patron saints, were executed on this spot. The late Gothic church was completed at the end of the 15th century. After the Reformation it was used as a warehouse and then, from 1634, as a public library, the first in Zurich, which was merged into the Zentralbibliothek in 1917. In 1839 the islet was joined to the right bank by Limmatquai. Since 1942, after renovation and excavations, it has again been used for worship and cultural events. In the choir are Augusto Giacometti's stained-glass windows of 1942, which contrast the life of Christ with that of a modern man. The crypt holds the so-called martyr's stone.
