Chelsea Old Church
At Chelsea Old Church, visitors can explore a building with Norman origins that preserves a private chapel of Sir Thomas More, rebuilt in 1528, and can see pillars attributed to Hans Holbein the Younger. Inside the church are historic monuments, such as the 1669 memorial to Lady Jane Cheyne, designed by the son of Gian Lorenzo Bernini and carved by Antonio Raggi, as well as a collection of chained books donated by Sir Hans Sloane. The interior holds commemorative plaques, tombs of notable figures and original 16th-century stained glass, much of it restored after damage suffered during the Second World War. Outside the church, visitors can see a statue of Thomas More and a small public garden with a sculpture by Sir Jacob Epstein.
