Malecón Promenade
The Malecón Promenade is a historic structure in Murcia, built in the 15th century as a flood defence against the rising waters of the Segura River, later turned into a promenade over the surrounding market gardens. It stands three metres above ground level and runs around the west side of the city for more than 1.5 km, starting at the Plano de San Francisco and continuing into the former market gardens of La Arboleja. It is listed as a Site of Cultural Interest and is one of the city's landmark spots. Along its length there are views over nearby gardens, and during the Fiestas de Primavera and the Feria de Murcia it hosts food stalls and craft markets. The promenade is accessible, suitable for children, allows pets, and remains open 24 hours.
