Church of Santo Domingo and Rosary Chapel
This is what survives of the old Dominican convent, an order established in Murcia since the 13th century. The present complex combines two periods: the Rosary Chapel, from the 16th century, and the conventual church, built in the 18th. Its most striking feature is its double face. The church looks out onto two sides of the city and has a façade at each end. The western one, stepped, faces the Teatro Romea. The one facing Plaza de Santo Domingo is of brick and works like a crowning pediment, a screen that dignifies the open space more than being the real entrance to the nave. It stands on Plaza de Santo Domingo, right in the centre, a few steps from Calle Trapería and the theatre itself. It forms part of the official routes of Baroque churches and Baroque Murcia, so it fits well into a multi-stop walk through the old town.
