Heldenplatz
CultureVisit: ~30 min
Large open square of the Hofburg, bounded by the Neue Burg and the Burggarten. The space is presided over by two bronze equestrian statues, Archduke Charles and Prince Eugene of Savoy, the work of Anton Dominik Fernkorn. From the balcony of the Neue Burg Hitler proclaimed the Anschluss in 1938, which makes the square a key place in 20th-century Austrian history.
