Schwerbelastungskörper
CultureVisit: ~45 min
A gigantic concrete cylinder of about 12,650 tonnes built in 1941 in Tempelhof-Schöneberg. It was used to measure how far Berlin's sandy subsoil would sink, as a test for the monumental buildings of the Nazi project for the capital, "Germania", under the direction of Albert Speer. The planned triumphal arch was never built, and the block survives as a historic monument and a testimony to that megalomania.
