The Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes is a historic zoo in the north-east of the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, where visitors can explore facilities dating from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, such as the rotunda, bear pits, enclosures for big cats, a large metal aviary and a vivarium built in 1926. During the visit, around 600 animals from 180 different species can be seen, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates, with uncommon species such as tree kangaroos and orangutans. The visit lets you see animals in green surroundings and learn about the zoo's efforts in conservation and breeding programmes for endangered species, as well as its involvement in international animal protection initiatives.
