Arsenal Library
The Arsenal Library holds nearly a million volumes, with an outstanding collection of French literary texts spanning the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries, as well as manuscripts, prints, historical maps and plans. Visitors can explore unique archives such as those of the Bastille, parliamentary documents from the French Revolution, collections of eighteenth-century manuscript music, and holdings dedicated to literary and cultural figures such as Joris-Karl Huysmans, Louis-Sébastien Mercier and Joséphin Péladan. The building, once the residence of the Grand Master of Artillery, retains the atmosphere of its historic past and lets visitors discover collections related to the history of the book, bookbinding, and the evolution of the Arsenal and its occupants.
