Santa Maria in Trastevere
CultureVisit: ~45 min
One of the oldest churches in Rome dedicated to the Virgin, founded in the 3rd century and rebuilt in the 12th century under Innocent II. The façade bears a medieval mosaic, and the apse preserves 12th-century mosaics, with scenes from the life of Mary by Pietro Cavallini, from the 13th century, beneath. It faces the square of the same name, the heart of Trastevere, with an octagonal fountain.
