It is surrounded by the Tiananmen Gate to the north, the Great Hall of the People to the west, the National Museum of China to the east and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong to the south. In the centre stands the Monument to the People's Heroes. Access requires passing a security check and carrying your passport.
