Forbidden City
A great palace complex built between 1406 and 1420 under the Yongle Emperor and the residence of 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties. It covers about 72 hectares surrounded by a moat and walls, with thousands of halls with yellow-tiled roofs. It is toured from south to north, from the Meridian Gate to the Imperial Garden, passing through the great Halls of Harmony. It has been a World Heritage Site since 1987 and today houses the Palace Museum. Entry requires a reserved ticket and your passport.
