Central Cemetery
CultureVisit: ~90 min
Park cemetery opened in 1901 as Hauptfriedhof Stettin, covering about 168 hectares: the largest in Poland. It was laid out by the architect Wilhelm Meyer-Schwartau, with planting by Georg Hanning, modelled on the Ohlsdorf cemetery in Hamburg. It has eleven gates, curving paths lined with plane trees, a neo-Romanesque chapel facing a pond with a fountain and more than 300,000 graves. There is also a lapidarium and a 1967 monument on a hill along the main axis.
