Puca Pucara
CultureVisit: ~30 min
Puca Pucara, "red fortress" in Quechua, is a small Inca complex beside the road that climbs from Cusco towards the Sacred Valley, very close to Tambomachay. Its appearance is due to the reddish tone of the stone. It is thought to have functioned as a tambo, or checkpoint and lodging by the roadside. There are platforms, courtyards and terraces that can be explored in a few minutes.
