Grand Palais
The Grand Palais is a monumental 40,000 m² building on the Champs-Élysées, built for the 1900 World's Fair. Its Beaux-Arts architecture combines richly ornamented stone façades with an exposed iron and steel structure and a 14,000 m² glass roof. The central nave, 200 m long and 50 m wide, rises to 45 m under the central dome. The building houses the Palais de la Découverte (a science museum) and the Galeries nationales du Grand Palais, dedicated to major temporary exhibitions. After a €466 million renovation, it reopened in 2025 with its glass roof restored, 40 lifts and a Palais des enfants. It offers guided tours of the monument, temporary exhibitions, shows, concerts, lectures and workshops. The main façade is topped by copper quadrigas by Georges Récipon and decorated with allegorical sculptural groups.
