Alexander III Bridge
The Alexander III Bridge is a Beaux-Arts style bridge crossing the Seine in Paris, linking the Invalides esplanade with the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais. Opened in 1900 for the Universal Exposition, it is notable for its single 109-metre-long, 40-metre-wide steel arch, a feat of 19th-century engineering. It is decorated with four 17-metre monumental pillars topped with gilded bronze statues of Pegasus, thirty-two bronze lamp posts, and statues of the Nymphs of the Seine and the Neva commemorating the Franco-Russian alliance. It also has lion statues and friezes by artists of the Salon des Artistes Français. Classified as a historic monument in 1975 and part of the UNESCO World Heritage site, it is widely regarded as the most ornate bridge in Paris. Visitors can walk across it, admire its sculptures and enjoy views towards the Invalides and the Champs-Élysées.
