The Serpentine
The Serpentine lake, located in Hyde Park, is known for its curved shape and offers activities such as rowing-boat hire and a designated swimming area. Every Christmas morning, the Serpentine Swimming Club holds a 100-yard swimming race, a tradition that includes the award of the Peter Pan Cup to the winner. The lake has also hosted international sporting events, such as the swimming leg of the triathlon and the swimming events at the London 2012 Olympic Games. In winter, when the lake freezes, some swimmers break the ice to swim in its cold waters during a special New Year's event.
