National Archaeological Museum of Athens
The National Archaeological Museum of Athens brings together finds from sites across Greece, from prehistory to late antiquity, and organises its pieces into sections such as prehistoric, sculpture, pottery, bronze, and the Egyptian and Near Eastern collections. Among the objects on display are the Cycladic marble figurines from Delos and Keros, the Mycenaean gold funerary masks, and the two gold Vapheio cups depicting the capture of a bull. The Egyptian collection displays statues, tools, jewellery, mummies, intact bird eggs and a 3,000-year-old loaf of bread with a bite mark, with the centrepiece being the bronze statue of the priestess-princess Takushit, about 70 centimetres tall and covered in a robe with hieroglyphs. The neoclassical-design building is in the Exarchia district, between Epirus, Bouboulinas and Tositsa streets, with its entrance on Patission Avenue.
