Opened in 1964 in Chapultepec Forest, designed by Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, it is the largest museum in Mexico and holds the country's finest collection of pre-Hispanic art. The galleries open onto a large courtyard with an enormous concrete umbrella and a fountain. Highlights include the Sun Stone or Aztec calendar, the colossal Olmec head, and the Maya, Teotihuacan and Oaxacan objects.
